Wordpress plugin for Thamizmanam toolbar

Update (22/03/2007): Latest version 0.9 has been uploaded. This adds support for Blogdesam aggregator.

This plugin is the outcome of spending three days with Wordpress and Thamizmanam toolbar code :-)

This plugin inserts automagically the Pathivu toolbar code (both part1 and part2, as listed out here) at proper places. This supports both Thamizmanam and Blogdesam. The plugin adds the code only to SINGLE post pages. Note that, no template file changes are needed. Just install this plugin and everything should be fine!

How to install the plugin?

  • Download the file (see the bottom of this post)
  • Upload this to your <wordpress_root>/wp-content/plugins folder. NOTE: Replace <wordpress_root> with your WP installation directory.
  • Unzip the file to create tbToolbar sub directory, under plugins folder. Overwrite the old files to upgrade. NOTE: Make sure tbToolbar folder is immediately under /wp-content/plugins folder.
  • Go to Plugins page in your WP control panel and activate the plugin.
  • Now, go to Options > Thamizmanam WP Plugin page. Here you can choose the image for showing in Thamizmanam. You can also leave this blank for the plugin to submit with the default picture.

This has been tested with WP 2.1, but should work with 2.x with out any problems. I’d love to know if you get this to work with WP 1.5.x versions.

  2. ஞானவெட்டியான், இந்த pluginனை wordpress.comல் உபயோகிக்க இயலாது, ஏன்னா, Wordpress.com உங்களோட pluginsலாம் install பண்ண விடாது. இந்த plugin self hosted Wordpress installationsக்கு மட்டுமே பொருந்தும். ரொம்ப குழப்பறேனா?

  4. Glad it is of some help Venkat :) I am thinking of adding support for blogdesam.com toolbar to this plugin, since Blogdesam uses the same Pathivu toolbar code. What do you think?

    Also, I am doing 2 more WP related things - a theme and another plugin for showing Chess games online. Lets see which I can finish first.

    First bug report :) The plugin automatically points to the image icon (that appears in the Thamizmanam pages along with the posts) to your site. Can you pl. add an option for pointing to the icon in the plugin options page? (alternatively, a word for the users to edit the appropriate place to that effect).

    Blogdesam plugin is a good idea as well.

  13. hi kannan, many wordpress themes don display tamil letters properly and fix for this is mentioned at http://kanimai.blogspot.com/20.....hemes.html

    everytime we change to new themes it is annoying to make this change in the style.css

    is it possible that these two simple changes be made through a plugin compatible for any theme? if so,i kndly request u to get it done for the tamil wordpress users community ..

  16. vinaiooki had a problem with the plugin when he changed the permalinks to /%postname%/ instead of page id. this may be because that the tamil page names are very lengthy in URL. Can u please try a fix for this?

    The line

    $permalink = (get_permalink($post->ID));
    may need a change in the plugin i guess. not sure. thankss

    Thanks a bunch for the useful plug in. I’ve had the v 06 version working fine for many months. Now that I tried to upload the v 09 in place of the v 06, something isn’t working smoothly!?

    These are the things I did:

    First, tried to upload the v 09 to the same folder where v 06 {/wp-content/plugins/tb/ } resides, hoping it’ll write over & update - didn’t work..did all the necessary activation under my plug in list in wp-admin, but still won’t work.

    2nd
    deleted the whole v06 and installed the v09 & followed all the necessary steps - didn’t work either.

    For now I’m using the v06. Last week I did a posting:

    The above posting showed up under the classic thamizmanam listing but did not, in the new tamilmanam.net deal !!

    wondering what am I doing wrong..? .

  25. Vassan, I am not sure why v09 is not working where v06 did.

    If you have any cache scripts enabled (wp-cache…), disable that or clear the cache and then try installing this toolbar script again.

    BTW, this script is not tested with WP v2.5 and above. Others might have done this, I remember TamilManam admins asking me abt the same thing. Prob they have an updated scrpt available for dnld.
