Yahoo!!! Demonoid tracker is up again…

Only yesterday I posted something regarding Demonoid. Today morning (IST), I was pleasantly surprised to see Demonoid’s tracker up and running. You know what it means?? I can finish off all of my 27 torrents that stopped when Demonoid went down now :) Yay!!

It looks like, Demonoid is now hosted in Malaysia. Hmm…are Malaysian laws flexible enough for Demonoid to survive there, or is it going to be another Canadian-saga once more? Lets see. When I was in Malaysis for sometime, I got the impression Malaysian govt. had some strong rules against piracy. Prob, they dont have any stringent cyber laws yet (Off topic: I missed Cyberjaya when I was there, heard many good things about it :( )

Anyway, leave these worries for later and leech away happily, now that the big daddy is back!!

Another MP3 search engine – Tagoo!

On the wake of Demonoid’s demise (!?), the world is seeing many other p2p / file sharing sites being tormented by the likes of MPA, RIAA and all kinda of other alphabet soup organizations.

The recent addition is Tagoo, a new Mp3 search engine, with a RU domain. Since, another Russian site AllOfMp3.com just got virtually nuked by the Russian govt recently, I am not sure how long Tagoo will survive. But, who cares, eh?! If not Tagoo, something else is bound to come up.

I decided to try out Tagoo for some Indian (as in “Country next to China” & not “Native American”) music. Did a search for “India” & got all India.Arie mp3s…hmmm, fair enough. Its my mistake I gave such a vague term. Next I tried “Tamil” (yey!!) & got 4 results!! Hmm…I sure do lack basic searching skills :(

Oh no, Demonoid is down again!!

Demonoid

Demonoid, one of my favorite trackers, is down again. :( I was not running my torrent client last week, as it was used for doing “important” things like playing “Super bounce out” and “Half-life” by my relatives. I saw the “CRIA blocked us” message in Demonoid.com only this morning, a bad start to the week, I’d say!!

Demonoid.com lately has been giving lots of problems – site won’t load, blank pages, torrent files won’t download – all these irritating stuff, and now the site itself has “officially” gone down. Luckily the trackers are up, so your current downloads won’t be affected. Lets pray Demonoid finds a nice home in some country where people have other jobs than shutting down the torrent sites. How about Sweden? :)

Talking of Sweden, I read Prince is trying to curb Piratebay with the help of Web Sheriff. What a joke! Read this “fan article” to understand why Websheriff is such an interesting personality.

P2P software

If you are still using Kazaa, Morpheus or one of those old, obsolete software, I have news for you….wake up, things have changed!! eDonkey n/w was the coolest one, till sometime back, not anymore. It still is the best source for complete CDs, though. eMule, an open source client for edonkey network, is still one of the most downloaded programs off sourceforge. The main advantage of eDonkey network is, it provides quality CD dumps, while Kazaa & Gnutella (most of the time) provide you only the rips. Rips include only the bare minimum that is needed for running the software, while a CD image, obviously, allows you to make an exact copy of the original CD :) Mind that, many of the things available in these networks are illegal. But, because of its P2P nature, it is pretty difficult to shut down these networks, unlike Napster which was inherently non-p2p and so was easy to shut down. The original Gnutella network doesn’t have good content, but gnutella2 seems to be good.

The latest *hot* thing is BitTorrent. Torrent network doesn’t have More >
